If it's your first time in Paris, you might be wondering what weather to expect and what to pack. I've broken down the city's climate season by season, with outfit recommendations so you know exactly what to bring!
One thing to keep in mind before we dive in: comfort comes first. Paris involves a lot of walking, so prioritize comfortable shoes above anything else. But don't worry, Parisians have mastered the art of looking great while staying comfortable, and so can you!
Spring (March to May)
What's the weather like?
In March and April, temperatures and weather are quite unpredictable, usually ranging from 46°F to 64°F, switching quickly between rainy and sunny days. It tends to get warmer and sunnier in May, transitioning nicely into summer.
What to wear
I recommend bringing a light trench coat or waterproof jacket, especially for March and April. In May you can hope for milder weather, but it remains unpredictable so a jacket is still a good idea. Layered outfits are your best bet so you can easily adjust throughout the day, typically a t-shirt with a sweater or light cardigan.
My pro tip: Bring a compact umbrella because no one wants to be drenched on their vacation! And if you forget, don't worry, they can be found at almost any corner store.

Summer (June to August)
What's the weather like?
From June to August, it's generally sunny with warm to hot temperatures, ranging from 64°F to 95°F+. Heatwaves have been becoming more common in recent years, so it's worth being prepared.
What to wear
One thing many visitors don't realize: air conditioning is much less common in Paris than in the US. Hotels, apartments and even some restaurants may not have it, so dressing for the heat rather than relying on AC is genuinely important.
Parisians tend to dress lightly but still chic in summer: sundresses, light pants, and short-sleeved tops. Athletic shorts are less common, especially in the city center, opt for jeans or linen alternatives if you want to dress like a local.
Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat are an absolute must! It's also a good idea to bring a couple of light cardigans for the occasional air-conditioned museum or cooler evening.
My pro tip: A mini electric fan is a surprisingly great addition to your bag on scorching days!

Fall (September to November)
What's the weather like?
In the fall, temperatures gradually cool from 68°F down to 43°F. September is usually a gentle transition, offering warm weather. October and November get a bit more chilly, with more rain and wind, but the brown and orange tones of autumn create a beautiful atmosphere in the city, especially in our parks and gardens.
What to wear
In September, a light raincoat is usually enough. From October to November, it's better to bring something warmer like a medium-weight coat or wool jacket, and a water-resistant outer layer. I personally love layered knits and long-sleeve tops in this period, with ankle boots or leather shoes.
This is also peak scarf season for Parisians! If you want to dress like a local, a scarf is the perfect accessory, keeping you warm and adding a nice touch to your outfit.

Winter (December to February)
What's the weather like?
Winter in Paris is cold but rarely extreme, usually ranging from 32°F to 46°F. Some years we get a few days of snow, but it never lasts long. Overall, the weather is more often grey and damp than snowy.
What to wear
Just like in the fall, a water-resistant coat is essential. For under-layers, warm sweaters, turtlenecks or big hoodies are great options. If you're sensitive to the cold, like I am, thermal base layers will be your best friend. For shoes, comfortable waterproof options are ideal, and very much what you'll see most Parisians wearing.
My pro tip: Gloves, a scarf and a beanie are a must if you're planning a lot of outdoor sightseeing. And honestly, a matching set makes for a really cute winter outfit!
